FLORENCE, AL – Janie Clasgens, a University of North Alabama Department of Music graduate and full-time singer with Disney’s Voices of Liberty has been tapped to be the special guest as part of UNA Voce’s “Voices Unplugged” concert set for March 18 at 6 p.m. at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church on Darby Drive in Florence.
“I am so honored and thrilled to be returning to UNA to sing with Una Voce at their spring concert this year,” said Clasgens from her home in Florida. “Singing in the Una Voce and learning from Dr. (Ian) Loeppky helped me develop so many of the skills I use every single day when singing with Voices of Liberty. The ‘Voices Unplugged’ concert was always my favorite performance of the year, so being asked to come back as the guest artist this years feels very full circle and incredibly special.”
Clasgens will be performing several pieces in the concert, both solo and with the Una Voce ensemble. The concert takes place annually and is organized by Dr. Loeppky, a Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities.
“I don’t think I have had a student who has excelled as equally in the realms of music education and music performance,” he said of Clasgens. “She’s become a consummate, dedicated music teacher, and she stood out as one of the finest singers I have ever seen in our choir, opera, and musical theatre programs. It paid off: She’s a full-time singer – with benefits – with one of the best vocal groups in the country. We couldn’t be more proud of her.”
