FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama Horn Choir has been awarded First Prize in the Kings Peak International Music Competition, the second time in three years that the Horn Choir has placed first in a competition at the international level.

“Earning first prize in any international music competition is an extraordinary feat, especially for our studio here at UNA,” said Dr. Jordan Redd, Assistant Chair of Music. “This is the second time in the last three years that our horn choir has earned first prize in a competition at the international level. We have also had several students place in the solo competition as well. When I was hired here in 2022, I really wanted to help the studio grow in any way that I could. Part of that is building a healthy culture and brand that will sustain itself over time. Competing regularly is one of the ways we are making this happen. Iron sharpens iron, and these students know it. I am proud of the work that they have put in, but we have to continue to get one percent better each day.”

The students who participated in the competition include Abigail Brazda, William Cochran, Connell Cornelius, John Harrington, Katherine Jones, Ruben Landa, Skylar McChristian, Joshua Prestenberg, and Mallory Taylor.

“We are very proud of our first-place ranking for the Kings Peak International Music Competition,” said William Cochran, a junior and member of the Horn Choir. “We have been putting in work every day, pushing ourselves past what we thought we could achieve. We pride ourselves on having a strong work ethic and will continue to push each other to become the best versions of ourselves possible. As the studio continues to grow, we will keep this standard of excellence.”
