FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama's Department of Music and Theatre will present its annual Fall Choral Showcase Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church on Darby Avenue in Sheffield. Admission is free of charge. The concert will feature performances by the three elite student choruses at UNA. The 86-voice UNA Collegiate Singers, 27-voice Chamber Choir and 13-voice Vocal Jazz Ensemble have prepared an eclectic, moving and fun choral program directed by Ian Loeppky and accompanied by Karen Cantrell. Loeppky said the program will include an "eclectic mix" of both classical and contemporary pieces, featuring works by American composer Argento, Bach, and Venezuelan and Finnish composers, as well as "In My Life" by The Beatles, among others. In addition, the choruses will perform two pieces composed by members of their own group, Drew Mills' "Doxology" and Loeppky's "Adam lay ybounden." "The next best thing to singing in a chorus is listening to one," Loeppky said. "There will be something for everyone." A reception will follow the concert in the Parish Hall.
