FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama Department of Music and Theatre proudly announces the upcoming productions included in the Summer Theatre 2012 season, all of which will be showcased in the George S. Lindsey Theatre on UNA's campus. Headlining Summer Theatre 2012is one of the classics of American theatre, Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire." Directed by two-time Tony-nominated director Randal Myler, the professional company includes Myk Watford, Broadway actor and cast of the 2007 blockbuster film "No Country for Old Men," based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy,as Stanley; Elaine Hendrix, who is perhaps best known for her role as opportunistic fiancee Meredith Blake in the 1998 Disney remake of "The Parent Trap,"as Blanche; and UNA theatre faculty Charlton James as Mitch. "A Streetcar Named Desire" will run from June 28 until July 8. Evening show times are June 28 to 30 and July 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. Afternoon show times are June 30 and July 1, 7, and 8 at 2 p.m. Cost of admission is $5 for students, $10 for UNA employees and seniors, and $20 for general admission. Also included in the summer season is "Tuna Does Vegas,"which re-unites the lovable and eccentric characters from the "third smallest town in Texas" as they take a rambling romp in Sin City. Reviving the roles of the "Greater Tuna" series will be UNA theatre faculty Charlton James and UNA theatre student Bryan Hall. Performances of "Tuna Does Vegas" will be August 3, 4, 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for UNA employees and seniors, and $15 for general admission. Rounding out the Summer Theatre 2012 season will be the UNA Summer Theatre's Young Company as they present an original Devised Theatre Project. "Devised theatre" is a form of theatre that originates from collaborative, usually improvisatory, work by a group of theatre artists. The piece will consist of stylized movement, original music, spoken words and conceptualized storytelling. The Devised Theater Project will be performed August 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for general admission. Tickets will be available starting June 6 in the Department of Music and Theatre office or Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts.
