FLORENCE, Ala. - The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is adding two script contests for its 13th annual competition March 4-7, 2010. Festival organizers have created two categories, Feature Screenplays and Short Screenplays. Cash and prizes will be awarded in each category.
For the past 12 years, the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival, held at the University of North Alabama, has supported independent film through its film competition open to professional, college and young filmmakers around the world. According to festival steering committee member and UNA film professor Jason Flynn, the screenplay competition will enhance the festival's mission by "discovering, supporting and bringing attention to emerging screenwriters with authentic vision." To enhance its environmentally conscious mission, the film festival is now accepting only electronic submissions of screenplays through www.withoutabox.com. The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey's own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show." In addition to housing all of Lindsey's film and television scripts, the library archives at UNA hold the complete collection of Ernest Borgnine's scripts, as well as rare scripts donated by author Ray Bradbury, archivist and enthusiast Forest J. Ackerman, film historian David J. Skal and actor Lucas Black, among others.
