FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama Marching Percussion Ensemble will host its Ninth Annual North Alabama Day of Percussion Oct. 31 at the Muscle Shoals High School Stadium. The event will include clinics instructed by members of the ensemble as well as guest musicians. The clinics typically attract at least 300 high school percussionists from across the state, according to Dr. Iain Moyer, assistant band director at UNA. The event is sponsored by Moyer and Muscle Shoals High School band directors David Waters and Will Campbell. The purpose, Moyer said, is for young musicians to work alongside world-class musicians to be "educated, inspired and motivated." This year's Day of Percussion features guest clinicians Colin McNutt, director of percussion for The Cadets Drum Corps, and James Sparling, percussion caption head of the Madison Scouts Drum Corps. The UNA Pride of Dixie Marching Band will join the percussion ensemble to close with its 2012 field show. The cost to attend the Day of Percussion is $10 per student, payable by cash or check. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. Clinics begin at 9 a.m., and the day concludes at 2:30 p.m. Lunch will not be provided. In the event of rain, the clinics will be moved to the Muscle Shoals High School Auditorium. For more information, contact Moyer at 256-765-4517 or imoyer@una.edu
