FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama’s Student Government Association and Center for Student Engagement, in partnership with other active registered student organizations, including the College Democrats, Miss UNA, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Student Athletes Advisory Committee, will have a non-partisan voter registration event from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 2 in the Guillot University Center atrium.
“This initiative encourages students to register to vote and to have their voices heard in the upcoming elections,” said Olivia Britton, Student Government Association Chief of Staff. “The event is an opportunity for students to learn more about voter registration, including important deadlines and how to register in-person or online. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with the registration process and to answer any questions the students may have.”
Information is available online at this link as well as here. Students also have the option of registering to vote in Florence or in their hometowns, with the online guides offering step-by-step instructions on how to do both. There are some deadlines to keep in mind, however, including:
- Oct 21 as the last day to register to vote to participate in the Nov. 5 primary election;
- 29 as the last day to apply for an absentee ballot; and
- 4 as the last day to hand-deliver an absentee ballot.
“This event underscores the importance of civic participation, especially among young voters,” said Dr. Tammy Jacques, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. “Voting is a fundamental right, and it is critical that students use their voices to influence decisions that affect their futures.”
