FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama continues to celebrate 150 years of women by hosting the Weekend of Women from March 10-12. One of the events during the weekend is the School of the Arts (SOTA) Student Showcase.

On Saturday, March 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. student art will be on display and available for purchase at UNA on Sixth in Downtown Tuscumbia. All proceeds from this event will go to the student whose art is purchased.

“This is an opportunity to highlight the talent, hard work, and creative practices that are being developed here within SOTA,” said Aaron Benson, Department Chair of Visual Arts and Design. “The students work all day in a classroom or studio, and this event provides us an opportunity to publicly highlight what we are doing to the community and region. Our students display a melting pot of talent.”

There will be various forms of student art shown, such as ceramics, sculpture, painting, photography, fashion, interior architecture, and design. While ticketholders are perusing students’ art, Alabama Bliss will provide refreshments.

“This is my first ever showcase,” said Lauren Zabel, a photography student. “I am just excited for a new audience to see my art. I like to capture the beauty I see around me, and share it with others in hopes that it will open their eyes to a different perspective than they saw before.”

You can purchase tickets to the SOTA Student Showcase and view the Weekend of Women event schedule here.
