FLORENCE, Ala. - Tommy Mathis signed on the dotted line yesterday to establish a University of North Alabama Foundation endowed scholarship memorializing his late wife, Marigail Mathis, a nationally known fashion designer and entrepreneur. The scholarship is for UNA students majoring in human environmental sciences with a concentration in merchandising and fashion design. "Marigail always wanted to be remembered as a mentor for young women and men," Tommy said. "She'd be so delighted to know they can fulfill their dreams and passions because of an opportunity like this." Marigail was creator of a women's fashion line that she sold to 600 boutiques nationwide. She also owned five women's clothing stores, including Marigail's in the English Village shopping center in Florence. To make a contribution to the Marigail Mathis Endowed Scholarship at UNA, contact Melissa Pettus, coordinator of endowed scholarships, at 256-765-4757 or rmpettus@una.edu.
