FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama and Slidr, a pioneering urban mobility company specializing in electric transportation solutions, have created a collaboration that aims to provide an innovative, eco-friendly transportation option for UNA students beginning this fall and, possibly, as early as October.
“Slidr is a great option for students, faculty, and staff,” said Hollon McCullar, Operations and Compliance Manager for University Police. “We have been seeking an alternative to our traditional bus routes that are more efficient, are more easily maintained, and transportation address the needs of our campus community. We believe this trial opportunity may provide the solutions we are seeking for the campus community.”
As part of this trial partnership, Slidr will offer a free fixed route service and an on-demand service exclusively for UNA students. The collaboration underscores a commitment to sustainable transportation solutions that prioritize convenience, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
The fixed route service will operate Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will seamlessly connect key campus locations, which will enhance accessibility for students. The designated pick-up and drop-off locations along the route include:
- Rice and Rivers residence halls
- Harrison Plaza
- No’Ala Heights and the Connie D. McKinney Center
- East Campus
- Grandview Apartments
- Lions Gate Apartments
To further cater to the diverse schedules of UNA students, the partnership adds an on-demand feature that will operate Monday through Friday from 5-9 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon until 4 p.m. Students can take advantage of this feature through Slidr’s mobile app, which can be downloaded in the App Store or Google Play, that provides real-time tracking and estimated wait times, which will help users efficiently plan their journeys.
“We are thrilled to join forces with the University of North Alabama to provide innovative and sustainable transportation solutions for students,” said Michael Trombino, Founder and CEO of Slidr. “Our commitment to reducing carbon emissions while enhancing campus mobility aligns perfectly with UNA’s forward-thinking approach to education.”
UNA’s commitment to fostering a green and connected campus environment makes this partnership a natural fit. The collaboration reflects the institution’s dedication to providing its students with accessible, reliable, and eco-conscious transportation options.
