Michelle Eubanks, UNA, at meubanks@una.edu, 256-606-2033 or 256-765-4392 FLORENCE, AL - Dr. Carmen Burkhalter, the outgoing Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Alabama, was named a Finalist for an Inclusive Leader Award. Burkhalter was nominated by UNA's Office of Advancement for her work in the creation of the Mitchell-West Center for Social Inclusion. "I have been in higher education a long time, and I believe education brings harmony," Burkhalter said on the nomination and being named a finalist. "The more that people know about each other, and the more experiences that students have in higher education, the better prepared they are to be contributing members of our citizenry within our democracy. The Center sends the message that all students have a voice in the discussion about the importance of being contributing members of our citizenry within our democracy." The Inclusive Leader Awards recognize those who develop and champion inclusive organizations and practices as part of the GlobalMindED innovation network of inclusive leaders who are committed to creating a capable, diverse talent pipeline across industries and sectors, nationally and globally. Leaders are nominated across a variety of categories, including higher education, health and wellness, technology, and banking and finance.
