Michelle Eubanks, UNA, at meubanks@una.edu, 256-606-2033 or 256-765-4392 FLORENCE, AL - The University of North Alabama will celebrate Homecoming 2020 from Oct. 29-31 with a series of events designed for students, alumni, and friends of UNA that will culminate with the football game against Gardner-Webb University at 3 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Braly Stadium. This year's theme is "Spirit of the Pride." "The theme was voted on by the UNA Homecoming committee and suits the season, as Homecoming takes place at Halloween, as well as the spirit and pride we all feel in this great University," said Justin "Bishop" Alexander, Alumni Relations Director. "So many events are planned, and it will be a good time for all those who love UNA to be on campus for this celebration." Each year, student organizations on campus showcase UNA pride by participating in the Homecoming Spirit Challenge. The challenge includes a window painting competition at the Guillot University Center, a pep rally at the UNA turf and practice field, and a parade that takes place in downtown Florence. In addition to Homecoming, the 2020 Homecoming Alumni Awards nominations are open. Participants can nominate alumni for several awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, Alumni of the Year Award, Community Service Award, Educator of the Year Award, Faculty/Staff Alumni Service Award, Military Service Award, Public Service Award, and the Young Alumni Award. Nominations are also open for the Friend of the University Award. Florence City Planner Melissa Bailey, and her husband, David, an educator at Florence High School, are both alumni award recipients. "Our college years become memories in a flash, but the values of service and civic responsibility become engrained," she said. "UNA alumni all over the world are involved in efforts to address critical social, economic, and environmental needs throughout society, particularly in local communities. It is remarkable the University and our Alumni Association celebrate through the Homecoming Awards program those who selflessly contribute beyond standard career responsibilities." Award submissions may be made at www.una.edu/alumni. Nominations will close May 31, at 11:59 p.m. About The University of North Alabama The University of North Alabama is an accredited, comprehensive regional state university offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs through the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Sciences, and the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions.
