Summer Commencement Set for Aug. 5

FLORENCE, AL – Around 400 students will graduate as part of the University of North Alabama summer commencement ceremonies set for Saturday, Aug. 5 in Norton Auditorium. Dr. Jean Ann Helm Allen, the chair of the Department of Kinesiology at UNA, will provide the address for both ceremonies.
“Dr. Helm Allen’s classroom and professional experiences provide her with a wealth of knowledge and insights that will benefit our graduates,” said Dr. Katie Kinney, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Having worked closely with her in the College of Education and Human Sciences, I know the value she brings to the department and to the academic profile of the University.”
Helm Allen has her bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees from the University of Alabama. She joined the faculty at UNA in 2013 where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in health and physical education pedagogy. She is passionate about teaching her students how to apply knowledge from the classroom into their careers, specifically related tow working with individuals with disabilities.
All graduate students from all colleges will participate in the 9 a.m. ceremony on Aug. 5, while all undergraduate students from all colleges will participate in the 11:30 a.m. ceremony. Both ceremonies will be live streamed via UNA’s official YouTube channel. Graduates are allowed a maximum of seven guests and are required to check in as a group.
