UNA Math Placement
- ALEKS Math Placement Assessment score
- ACT/SAT Math Subsection scores
- Credit from AP/IP test scores
- College credit earned through dual enrollment or transfer credit
Students who do not have any of the above scores or college credit, may only register for MA 100E or MA 105, or must take the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment for placement into the proper mathematics course for their major.

When do I take the ALEKS Assessment?
Any students without appropriate ACT/SAT scores, or prior college credit needing to take a mathematics course should take ALEKS. -
Where can I take my ALEKS Placement?
Current or incoming UNA students must take the ALEKS assessment at the UNA Testing Center or any other certified testing center. Students unable to take ALEKS during the UNA Testing Center’s testing schedule, may contact the Math Placement Coordinator for special accommodations. Dual enrollment students may take the ALEKS placement at the UNA Testing Center or any other certified testing center, or at their local high school campus, provided their campus has personnel in which are approved to proctor the assessment. The ALEKS assessment must be proctored for all students. -
How do I schedule an ALEKS Placement at the UNA Testing Center?
Students can schedule a time to take the ALEKS placement at the UNA Testing Center using the following link: https://unatesting.youcanbook.me - Is there a fee for using ALEKS PPL?
Students must pay $20 to use ALEKS. This gives students access to up to 5 placements, and 12 months access to the learning modules. Payment can be made on the ALEKS website using a credit or debit card. - How long does the ALEKS placment take to complete?
The ALEKS placement is an adaptive placement system. There is a maximum of 30 questions, but the actual number of question each students sees can vary greatly. On average the placement takes students between 60 and 90 minutes with a maximum allowed time of 3 hours. -
Do I need to install any software or plug-ins prior to taking the ALEKS Placement ?
Current or incoming UNA students may use their own laptop to take the ALEKS placement at the UNA Testing Center. Computers must be Windows or Mac computers and must have the ALEKS version of the Respondus Lockdown Browser installed, https://www.aleks.com/support/lockdown_system_requirements.
Dual enrollment students may take the ALEKS assessment on Windows, Mac or Chromebook computers and are not required to use the Lockdown Browser. -
Can I use a calculator on the ALEKS Placement?
No, students may not use any form of external calculator on the ALEKS placement. If a problem on the ALEKS placement requires the use of a calculator, then one will be provided within the ALEKS assessment. - If I do not score high enough on my first ALEKS placement how do I take the placement again?
Students have access to a maximum of 5 placements for each ALEKS license. If you need to take the placement again, then you must first sign up for an ALEKS Prep and Learning Module and complete at least 8 hour of remediation before you can take another ALEKS placement. There must also be a minimum of 48 hours of time between each placement.
- Which Prep and Learning Module do I sign up for?
If you need to enroll in either MA 121 or MA 125, you should enroll in the Prep for Calculus learning module. Otherwise, you should enroll in the Prep for PreCalculus learning Module. -
What are ALEKS Knowledge Checks?
While working in a Prep and Learning Module, you will periodically complete a Knowledge Check to make sure you have mastered the topics you gained in Learning Mode. If you do not show mastery during the Knowledge Check, the topics will be added back into your Learning Pie so you can review them again. -
Does progress in an ALEKS Prep and Learning Module count toward placement?
No. You must complete a new Placement Assessment to change your placement result. Select the placement tab in the upper right corner of the ALEKS page to start a new Placement Assessment. -
Can I change to a different Prep and Learning Module later?
No, you may only use one Prep and Learning Module. If you are unsure which module to select, use the module recommended by ALEKS or consult with your advisor.
