Program Requirements

Students Entering the Program in Fall 2014 or after

University Honors Program Curriculum:

  • Honors 101 Forum on Human Values (Fall, 1st Year)
  • Honors 201 Civic Engagement Forum (Fall, 2nd Year)
  • Honors 301 Global Issues Forum (Spring, 2nd or 3rd Year)
  • Civic Engagement Requirement (Beginning Fall, 2nd Year)
  • Professional Learning Experience Requirement
  • Experience With Other Cultures Requirement
  • Honors Capstone Project (Research & Performance)
  • 21 total hours of honors coursework
  • Maintenance of a 3.25 GPA
  • Regular Participation in Honors Events (3 per semester)

Honors Capstone Project: 3-6 hour directed undergraduate project in the respective student major: can be research, performance, or experience based, as desired to fit the individual student's degree and career trajectory. 

Honors Civic Engagement Requirement: Targeted Area of Service requiring 10 to 14 hours of service per semester starting the students sophomore year.  

Honors Professional Learning Experience Requirement: Students engage in some form of practical learning related to their major field while at UNA, to include, but not limited to an internship, practicum, co-op, paid employment, job shadowing, or discipline-specific volunteering.

Honors Experience With Other Cultures Requirement: Can be met through different mechanisms, to include, but not limited to formal study abroad, approved private travel abroad, a year of foreign language study at UNA, ta year of service in the Language Partner Program, approved study “away” in a different region of the U.S., or an approved alternative break project in a different region of the U.S.

Experiential Learning

Honors Program students are strongly encouraged to engage in some form of practical learning while at UNA. This may include student teaching, a practicum, an internship, paid employment in one's major, or other forms of practical education.

Honors Program Dual Degree Engineering Track

The Honors Program Engineering Track allows students to complete Honors requirements at UNA and potentially to complete Honors requirements at a partner institution as a part of UNA’s Dual Degree Engineering Program.

  • Honors 101 Forum on Human Values
  • Honors 201 Civic Engagement Forum
  • Honors 301 Global Issues Forum
  • 18 total hours of Honors credit, which can include Honors courses and/or Honors credit granted at either institution.

Students in the Honors Program at UNA must remain in a dual degree engineering sequence to follow the Honors Engineering Track.

Note: To remain on scholarship all students must participate in Program co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and make satisfactory progress toward completion of the Program.
