FAQs: Advisement
Most incoming students will be advised at SOAR. The Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration will contact you regarding New Student Orientation and the next steps to enroll. New Student Orientation takes place each Monday prior the the first day of class each semester. If you have questions, please visit their webpage for program details and updates.
If you are admitted after an Orientation has taken place, you can reach out to advising@una.edu for advising and registration.
Check your UNA email first to see if you have a message from your advisor regarding scheduling an advisement appointment or other advisement information.
If you need to schedule an advising appointment, you may schedule online through TutorTrac (https://tutortrac.una.edu) or contact the advisor using your UNA student email account.
If you do not know who your advisor is, you can reach out to your major's department or email advising@una.edu.
Please allow your advisor 72 hours to respond to your message. If you do not receive a response by that time.
- Students who are advised by a professional advisor should contact the University Success Center for advising assistance.
- Students who are advised by a faculty member should contact their academic department's chair for advising assistance.
If you still need additional assistance, please email advising@una.edu.
For Current Students...
Registration is currently open for Summer 2021 semesters. Terms are: May, June, July, and June-July.
Registration is scheduled to begin in March for the Fall 2021 semester.
Course registration is conducted via Portal. If you have not been advised, see the "How can I meet with an academic advisor?" question above for assistance.
After advisement, your advisor will provide you with your registration pin and registration dates. When registration opens, you will login to Portal and register for classes as usual (refer to these photo instructions for additional guidance).
If you experience any issues or need assistance in troubleshooting, send an email to registrar@una.edu for assistance.
Most advisors are meeting with students both in-person and on zoom. Students who prefer to meet face-to-face should wear a mask and observe social distancing with their advisor.
Your advisor will communicate his/her preference then they email you.
You can indicate your preference when you schedule your appointment in TutorTrac or with the SuccessCenter or when you discuss your meeting time with your advisor directly.
When you schedule your phone appointment, your advisor should provide you the Zoom dial-in phone number or their office number for you to call at your scheduled time.
Note: It is possible that the advisor will have another appointment scheduled ahead of you, so if they are running a few minutes behind, you may need to wait.
Advisors will be able to address your questions over the phone as they would in-person or via video/virtual meeting. Any document sharing will be handled via email.
Depending on your advisor, they may use either Microsoft Teams or ZOOM to setup and connect with you virtually. When you schedule your appointment within TutorTrac, you may be given your advisor’s Zoom meeting link or phone number. The link along with any additional instructions for your appointment is located in the “Notes” section of the appointment confirmation page within TutorTrac.
Advisors will be able to address your questions over Zoom as they would in-person.
