Please be sure to read all the information below closely. Please be sure to contact the appropriate line captain(s) if you have questions.

In your application submission, you will be required to provide the names and email address of three references. These references will be emailed a confidential, online recommendation form to complete on your behalf. These references should be individuals who can address your abilities as a performer. One recommendation form must be from your most recent high school band director (or cheerleading sponsor/coach, if applicable for danceline). If you are a former UNA member, the UNA Director or your former (not returning) captain must supply one of your recommendations. Please note that the UNA Directors may seek additional references, as needed.

Round 1: Video Audition

Component One: Audition Routine and Fight Song Routine

An instructional video for the Round 1 audition routine and a fight song routine will be emailed to all who meet the basic requirements to audition. The instructional videos will be emailed to the email address provided on the audition application on Monday, March 16, 2026, between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. CT. This audition routine will include basic, intermediate, and advanced moves/skills utilized by the specific auxiliary unit for which you are auditioning. The routine will consist of moves you might see the auxiliary unit incorporate during a performance. The fight song routine will consist of the traditional fight song routine performed at pregame, parade, and pep rally events during the football season.

After receiving the instructional videos for the Round 1 audition routine, you will practice the routines and prepare to perform and record them for judging by submitting one video that meets the guidelines below.

Video Submission Guidelines

To begin your video, come close to the camera and state your first/last name and why you want to be a member of the UNA Auxiliary unit for which you are auditioning. This is an opportunity to show your personality and enthusiasm for auditioning to the judges. If you are a former member re-auditioning, do not say that you are a former member.

After introducing yourself, move back far enough from the camera so that the judges can see everything you are doing, including your feet, during your performance, but not so far back that what you are doing is unrecognizable. Your performance should consist of the audition routine and the fight song routine. Do not cut the video in between routines, simply pause after the first routine for a moment, then begin the next one. Be sure the perspective of the video is from the front and is recorded horizontally. Be sure to use your back facing camera for your video to ensure your video is not flipped/mirrored.

Professional quality videos are not expected, and a video taken on a standard smartphone should be sufficient. Make sure to film in a well-lit area. Do not edit/splice the video; your submission should be one continuous video. Be mindful that you will need to use a secondary device to play the music loudly while you record your video using your phone/camera.

After recording, upload your video to YouTube and obtain an unlisted link for your video. Setting the privacy to unlisted will ensure that the judges can view your submission. – OR – You may provide a Google Drive link with access provided only to those with the link.

All videos should be “titled” as follows when submitted:

o Color Guard/Lionette/Majorette - Round 1 Video - First and Last Name
o Example: Color Guard – Round 1 Video – Sally Smith
o Click here for a “how to” video on uploading an unlisted YouTube video and how to title it.

Round 1 audition video links must be emailed to unaauxiliary@gmail.com by Saturday, March 21st, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. CT

● Majorette and Color Guard candidates are encouraged to incorporate lower body work (i.e., footwork) and movement while utilizing their respective equipment.
● For all candidates – there will be no props, flag batons, hoops, streamers, knives, or other novelties permitted in this audition.
● Candidates for all three auxiliary units should consider that their routine will be judged on difficulty, technique and execution, crowd appeal, effective interpretation of the music selection, and overall performance and showmanship.
● All music used for solo routines should be considered “family friendly” and should not contain any offensive language, demeaning themes, or suggestive lyrics.
● Music will need to be sent to the captains prior to auditions to ensure it is available to play.
