There are several scholarships through the Biology department that are awarded each year. Selection takes place during the spring semester with the scholarship being awarded during the following academic year. The exact amount of some of these scholarships varies from year to year.

Beta Beta Beta Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: Must be an associate or regular member of the Beta Zeta chapter of Beta Beta Beta and have an overall GPA of 2.5 on 4.0 scale. The largest award will be $250 to a biology major who has completed 12 hours of biology courses and actively engaged in or has recently completed a research project.

Amount of award: up to $250

Francie Martin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: full-time student majoring in biology who is a graduate of Florence High School or Brooks High School; eligible for one year only

Amount of award: $1000+

John W. & Mary Holland Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: full time student majoring in biology and a regular member of βββ.

Amount of award: $1000+

Dr. Thomas F. "Whitey" Hall Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: full-time student majoring in Biology with an interest in botany or Secondary Education with the teaching field of Biology; minimum GPA of 3.0; sophomore or higher standard; eligible for one year, but prior recipients may re-apply. Application must be accompanied by a 250-word essay explaining the applicant's interest in plants.

Amount of award: about $2000+

Carl Putteet Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: Recipients must have demonstrated financial need based on the current and future need-based guidelines of the University and maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.  Preference is given to a student majoring in the biological sciences.

Amount of Award: about $500

Biology Academic Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: Recipients of this scholarship must be a graduating high school senior with a score of 28 or higher on the Science Reasoning subscore of the ACT.  Renewable for up to 8 semesters provided the recipient maintain a 3.25 GPS overall and a 3.5 GPA in biology

Amount of Award: $2800

Paul Kittle Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: Recipients of this scholarship must be an incoming full-time freshman student majoring in biology with a score of 28 or higher on the Science Reasoning subscore of the ACT and who has demonstrated financial need.

Amount of Award: $3000+

Dr. Donald H. and Kathleen Roush Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications: Recipients of this scholarship must be an incoming full-time freshman student majoring in biology with a score of 28 or higher on the Science Reasoning subscore of the ACT or SAT equivalent

Amount of Award:  $3700+

Jack H. Moore Winston Country Sciences Scholarship

Qualifications: Recipients of this scholarship must be a student majoring in biology from Addison High School.

Amount of Award: about $300
