Licensure Reciprocity Information
The Department of Social Work is pleased to inform you that we actively support social work licensure reciprocity. Our students are placed in internships across the nation (Internship Placements) with varied licensure reciprocity requirements. To support licensure reciprocity, our graduates are prepared to effectively take and pass all levels of the licensure exam executed through the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners. Additionally, the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners participates in the national licensure reciprocity agreement initiative designed to facilitate the transfer of social work licenses across state lines. This initiative aims to support social workers in their professional mobility and ensure that communities nationwide continue to benefit from their essential services.
Key Features of the Reciprocity Agreement:
- Streamlined Application Process: Social workers can now apply for licensure in participating states without the need for additional exams or extensive documentation.
- Enhanced Mobility: This agreement allows social workers to practice in new states more easily, providing greater flexibility and career opportunities.
- Comprehensive Support: We offer guidance to help to assist you in navigating the reciprocity process.
Continuing Education Requirements: To maintain licensure under the reciprocity agreement, social workers must fulfill continuing education (CE) requirements. Requirements vary.
- State-Specific CE Credits: Each participating state may have specific CE credit requirements. Please check the details for your state provided here (State Reciprocity Requirement List).
- Documentation: Social workers must keep records of their completed CE activities and submit proof of completion as required by their state.
