Bio

A Senior Lecturer for the English Department, Christa Higgins Raney was born and raised in Florence, AL. She is ABD in Composition, Rhetoric, and English Studies from the University of Alabama. Prior to that, she earned her Masters in English Literature from Mississippi State University in 2000 and her Bachelor of Science in English from the University of North Alabama in 1997.

She was hired by UNA in 2004 as an adjunct, and she transitioned to a full-time line in 2006. During this time, she has taught a variety of English courses for undergraduate students: Basic Writing, Composition I and II (including Honors sections), Advanced Composition, and sophomore literature classes (including Honors sections). She has also taught learning community and first-year experience classes.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is married to John Raney, and they have three children: Stokley Beth, Rayf, and Rowan.
