Shoals AAUW

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a non-profit organization that advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. Founded in 1881, AAUW has been working towards full gender equity for years, and continue to make big impacts on the matter.

AAUW's Alabama branch consists of 11 local community branches throughout the state as well as a state organization that works for the entire state. The AAUW has played a vital role in the history of women’s achievements in Alabama and continues to work toward equitable access of opportunity for women and girls.

There are community branches in the following areas:

  • Auburn
  • Birmingham
  • Decatur
  • Huntsville
  • Marion
  • Mobile
  • Montevallo
  • Montgomery
  • Scottsboro-Jackson County
  • Talladega
  • The Shoals
  • Tuscaloosa

To join the AAUW, you can either join the national organization and become a member-at-large, or you can reach out to the membership officer of the local branch you wish to join. The membership at the national level costs $59 annually, but students get a special price of $18.81 while they are enrolled at qualified university. Local membership dues vary by the branch you wish to join, so reach out to the membership officer.
