FLORENCE, Ala. – Members of UNA’s Math program were honored recently, but for very different reasons.  UNA math major John Carr received the first-place award for Best Student Presentation at the Kennesaw Mountain Undergraduate Mathematics Conference and UNA Math professor, Dr. Jillian Stupiansky was inducted into the BSC Sports Hall of Fame.  Not a bad weekend!

Carr along with UNA's Math/CS undergraduate research team participated in KMUMC 2014, with student presentations by Alex Edwards, Michael Beaver, Daniel Branscomb and Katie Goldsmith.  Undergraduate Audrey McGee also attended the conference. In addition, pedagogical talks were given by UNA faculty members Dr. Miranda Bowie, Dr. Ashley Johnson, Dr. James Jerkins, Dr. Cindy Stenger and Dr. Jessica Stovall.

Stupiansky was the other award winner.  She was inducted into the 34th class of the Birmingham-Southern College Sports Hall of Fame. She played golf at Birmingham-Southern from 2003-2007. In 2006 and 2007, she helped her team win the Big South Conference Championship and qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament. As a senior, she was the individual champion in three tournaments, including the conference championship, was the Big South Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row, and was named the Birmingham-Southern Female Athlete of the Year.
