Global Cultural Chair Scholarship

To further strengthen the promotion of global learning and sharing opportunities at UNA and in the Shoals community, the Global Cultural Chair Scholarship (GCCS) program is developed and managed by the Office of International Affairs (OIA). The program is designed to achieve two primary goals:  1) Promote person-to-person interactions and understandings between members of the UNA/the Shoals community and international students.  2) Create an opportunity for international student to exercise leadership and service learning by organizing their fellow country members to showcase their home cultures on campus and in the community.

Scholarship Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled international students in good academic standing are eligible to apply.
  • Freshman-Junior or at least 1 year left in school (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Be in Good Academic Standing and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

 Scholarship Requirements:

  • Participate in the mandatory orientation for the GCCS program (date to be determined).
  • Submit the online Global Cultural Chair Activities Form after each approved event.
  • Mandatory activities will include, but not limited to, the following: International Tea, Passport to the World (Fall and Spring), International Education Week, etc.
  • Students will serve as ‘advisors’ to OIA as needed to help improve our services.
  • To renew the scholarship, GCCS recipients must: Be in good academic standing and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75, be in full compliance with SEVIS regulations, and have a satisfactory completion of OIA approved cultural sharing duties and activities.

If you are nominated or choose to apply:

  1. Write a draft of your world view describing different aspects of your home culture (for example: family, religion, finance, food, life, etc.) 300-500 words.
  2. Submit the Global Cultural Chair Scholarship Application to oiaservices@una.edu or drop it off at the Office of International Affairs front desk.
  3. Due dates will be assigned on the application.
