College of Arts and Sciences Biology Department Endowed Scholarships

Francie Martin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Recipients of the scholarship must meet the following qualifications; first priority will be given to students who are pursuing a major in the department of biology or the department of physics and earth science who are graduates of Florence High School or Brooks High School.  If one or more students do not meet the first priority, second priority will be given to students who are pursuing a major in the department of biology or the department of physics and earth science who are graduates of another high school in Lauderdale County.  If one or more student does not meet the first or second priority, third priority will be given to students who are pursuing a major in the department of biology or the department of physics and earth science who are graduates of another high school in Colbert County.  If one or more student does not meet the first, second or third priorities, fourth priority will be given to students who are pursuing a major in the department of biology or the department of physics and earth science who are graduates of another high school in the state of Alabama.

John W. and Mary Holland Endowed Scholarship

Recipients shall be full time students majoring in Biology holding regular membership in Beta Beta Beta.

Dr. Thomas F. "Whitey" Hall Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Recipients must be second-year or above full-time students with minimum 3.0 GPA, may be transfer students with 3.0 GPA from previous school, must be majoring in Secondary Education with the teaching field of Biology or in Biology with an interest in Botany. Application must be accompanied by a 250-word essay explaining the applicant's interest in plants. Up to three finalist may be invited for interviews by the selection committee.

Biology Academic Endowed Scholarship

Recipients of the scholarship must be a graduating high school senior with a score of 28 or higher on the Natural Science Subtest of the ACT. Recipients must be a full-time student majoring in Biology (Professional, General, Cellular and Molecular, Environmental, or Marine). Renewable for up to eight semesters of a recipient's undergraduate education provided the recipient maintains a 3.25 overall GPA and a 3.5 in Biology.   Awards for this scholarship must be made or committed on or before the beginning of the fall semester of any academic year.

Carl Putteet Endowed Scholarship

Recipients of the scholarship must have demonstrated financial need based on the current and future need based guidelines of the University and maintain a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.  Preference will be given be a student majoring in the biological sciences.  If one or more students do not meet the aforementioned criteria, preference will be given to a student pursuing an education in the College of Arts and Sciences.
