This past year has been an exciting one for the Interior Design Program at the University of North Alabama. A revision of the interior design program has been completed which added three new courses to the concentration, strengthening the scope of subject matter related to the field and exposing our students to more in-depth studies in the advanced art and design studios. An additional change in the curriculum is a new minor for interior design students in Spatial Design.
Several students in the program were recognized for their achievements by professional organizations receiving honors for their design work. Most notable was first and third places in the ASID student design competition, first place in healthcare design in the state IIDA design competition and first and second places in both kitchen design and bath design awarded by the NKBA state chapter.
Mr. Dhrumil Patel, Assistant Professor of Interior Design led a study group to the National Kitchen and Bath Show in Las Vegas as well as several field trips to design firms around the state. This was the second year that our students have participated in UNA’s Earth Day demonstrating solar panels made by the students in the HES department and explaining the importance of renewable energy.
This year marked the first year that our senior design students presented their work at our Senior Exhibition. The event was attended by many of the student’s family and friends as well as fellow students in the department and showcased their exceptional work. We look forward to many more exciting events in the years to come as our program continues to grow and improve.
